In This Issue: Some big album announcements in here this week, particularly from our pals in the UK. Kasabian have announced their new release, Coldplay are busy hiding things in libraries around the world, Manic Street Preachers have got some music coming out soon as well. Also Santana has a new one out, along with rock legends Mastodon. On home soil Kim Churchill has signed to Warner Music and is releasing a new record soon, and there's heaps more in here!
Kasabian
British hairy rockers Kasabian have just announced the release of their new album, 48:13– which is out June 13, through Sony Music. The first single has also just appeared, having gotten its premiere on Zane Lowe’s radio show last week. It’s called ‘Eez-Eh’, so check it out over on the YouTubes.
Coldplay
Not strictly album news – although their new one Ghost Stories is May 16 – but more interestingly is how Coldplay have been revealing the lyrics from their new record. Chris Martin has been handwriting lyrics and hiding them in libraries around the world! So far lyrics have been found in Mexico City, Singapore and Helsinki. So start looking. Also, inside one of the lyric bundles is a Golden Ticket, giving you the chance to fly to London and see the band live.
Santana
The ridiculously prolific guitarist Santana has just dropped a new record, Corazón, released through Sony. Like any Santana record, it features a heap of guests – this one has Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, Ziggy Marley and a ton of others.
Mastodon
Rock icons Mastodon will release their sixth album, Once More ‘Round The Sun, out June 20 through Warner Music. Recorded in Nashville with Alice In Chains producer Nick Raskulinez, it’s their first album since 2011’s The Hunter.
Kim Churchill
Speaking of Warner Music, they’ve just signed the ludicrously talented Australian guitarist/songwriter Kim Churchill. Tied up in that deal is the announcement of his new album, titled Silence/Win, it’s out May 23.
Manic Street Preachers
Another UK band now, and it’s only been 6 months since they release their last record, Rewind The Film, and now they’re releasing the follow up on July 11. Titled Futurology, it’s out through Sony.
The Kooks
Just a gentle reminder that The Kooks are releasing Listen Out, their highly anticipated new album, on August 29 through Virgin/EMI. The single ‘Down’ is out now.
The Birds of Satan
Rock outfit The Birds of Satan (Taylor Hawkins, Wiley Hodgson & Nick Murphy) have just dropped their debut album. It’s titled 11, it’s out now through Shanabelle Records, and it contains some good old-fashioned rock tunes, so get on it.
Yann Tiersen
French songwriter Yann Tiersen has a new album coming out on May 16. It’s titled Infinity, and its already been called ‘a stone-cold masterpiece’ but Uncut magazine. So you know, maybe have a listen.
