Melbourne’s City Calm Down has spent the last three years sharpening their skills into a brilliant mix of vocals, gritty synths and bass lines. Their impressive EP Movements is testament to all of these skills and in November, the band will be launching the record at two special gigs in Melbourne and Sydney! Having already developed a loyal following after supporting the likes of Snakadaktal and Miami Horror, City Calm Down are a four-piece to keep an eye on as they continue to rack up the kudos.

The Mess Hall will perform their only Melbourne show for the year at the Northcote Social Club this November. Having last played in the city back in 2010, The Mess Hall will be reconvening soon to work on a new record; this show will be giving fans the opportunity to see one of the country’s finest in action for the only time in 2012.

AMANDA MURZDAN FOR “AFRAID” SINGLE LAUNCH AT THE NORFOLK BASEMENT
Amanda Merzdan has been working hard in the studio over the past year in recording her five-track EP, The Map Has Been Redrawn. Having spent the last year performing, supporting the likes of Holly Throsby and The Tallest Man On Earth, Merzdan has been all the while refining her live show and wowing crowds all over. She will be launching her first single from the EP, “Afraid”, at a show at the Norfolk Basement next month, backed by her full band.

THE ESPY WELCOMES BACK GANGA GIRI IN OCTOBER!
Ganga Giri are going to be returning to The Espy in October after having spent the last few months performing through the USA, Canada, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium. The electronic world music fusion act has also been recording and writing new material in Canada, and now returns to Australia to show us what they’ve been working on! The band is looking forward to playing their first show back in Melbourne, looking forward to reconnecting with Australian audiences and showcasing some of the songs to be featured on the forthcoming release.

Bill Summers will be tearing up the country next week in a way you’re not likely to have seen before! Summers is considered to be one of the planet’s leading percussionists who came to fame playing with the likes of Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder. Summers will be bringing his own personal afro Cuban jazz flavour to the shows in Australia that he’s developed over the years as one of the world’s jazz masters.

JAMAICA’S PRINCE ALLA TO PLAY THE ESPY IN OCTOBER
Kingston’s Keith Blake, aka Prince Alla has appeared on and recorded more than 30 albums in his celebrated career and in October, he’ll be bringing much of that celebrated material through to The Espy in Victoria! Re-entering the music scene in the mid-1970s, releasing “Born a Fighter” for producer Teddy Powell, before working on his own series of recordings that are now regarded as roots reggae classics.

THE PIERCES CONFIRM HEADLINE SHOWS IN MELBOURNE & SYDNEY
The Alabama-raised sister duo of Catherine and Allison Pierce had their first gigs in Australia confirmed earlier in the year, after Guy Berryman personally recruited them to open for Coldplay in November. SHIHAD BRINGING THEIR ‘MEANEST’ TO THE ESPY IN DECEMBER!
Get to The Espy at the end of the year for a great opportunity to see NZ rockers Shihad. Back in August, the band release a career retrospective double disc entitled The Meanest Hits and to coincide with the release, the band announced a string of Australian performances! THE SALVADORS LEAD SOUTH AUSTRALIAN-HEAVY LINE UP AT THE GOV IN OCTOBER

ATOLLS LAUNCHING DEBUT SINGLE “MUMBLE” IN MELBOURNE AND GEELONG
Atolls, the new project for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s bass player Lucas Skinner will be launching their debut single next month! The band’s sound is built on shifting layers of loops and fuzz, with “Mumble” providing audiences with a first taste of Atolls’ debut EP, due out in early 2013.
